With the advancement of technology, you can order anything you want with a click and it will be delivered to your doorstep! However, have you ever thought about how damaging this may be to the environment as a whole?
The idea of instant purchase, instant delivery, instant everything has caused more wastage in the world than ever before. Many would waste money buying new items. Some would even purchase the same items that they have at home, but a brand new one! That is because we are all lazy. Is it not much easier to replace something, than to revamp it?
This article is written to try and help you change your lazy mindset. With that, I’d like to introduce a few ways in which you can give your vases a makeover. Not only can you save money, but you can also spend time with your loved ones doing it together. Thus, this is a win-win situation!
- Dip It!
One of the options is to paint the entire vase, but you can also try color-block dipping! All you need to do is purchase a spray paint (which in my opinion is more budget-friendly). If you are interested in doing so, make sure to tape a line around where you want the color to stop, then wrap the rest in a cling wrap and tape it down. After two coats of matte black spray paint, tadaaa! Painting it also allows some messy stems to be unseen, which makes it neater.
- Give it texture!
You can use materials like plaster, paper mâché, and cement! These materials not only add texture, but also bring natural elements into play. You can use a matte white spray paint to even out the vase beforehand, then once it is dried, you apply the texture paste. Using a paintbrush, apply the paste thickly, then dab it to remove the brush marks while enhancing the texture. Lastly, just add a quick, thin layer of the color you like!
- Wrap it!
You can find whatever that is at home and unused to wrap your glasses! I personally like using ropes to do so! Rope, a hot glue gun, and forty-five minutes are all you need! If you want to do a fun activity with your little one, you can consider cutting up your wrapping papers into small pieces and wrap them around the littles’ vases. This allows you to teach them how to reuse old things and also art.
- Sprinkle it!
This is for those who are wanting a tinge of playfulness or sparkle. Depending on the color of the sprinkle, you can also use it for festive decorations! The safest one to use is – silver and gold. Take some Mod Podge and sprinkle on the sprinkles! However, if you have a fun personality and would like some colors to burst in your space, consider colorful sprinkles! Lastly, remember to let it dry. Of course, do this outside as it can get really messy.
Whenever you are free, give these ideas a go! Better still, ask your parents, your children, your friends, or your neighbors to join in the fun!
